Shihan Roger Jarrett, president of the USA Martial Arts Federation, has been selected for the West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame presented by “West Virginia Executive Magazine”. In the latest issue ( Spring 2010) of WV Executive Magazine, West Virginia’s premier business magazine, Master Jarrett was selected along with many other notable sports figures such as Jerry West, Randy Moss, Don Nehlen, Lou Holtz, Jeff Hostetler, Pat White, Chad Pennigton, and Phil Pfister, just to name a few.
“Budo on the Bluff” was held in Birmingham, Alabama on August 21-23. Van Bushnell, USA Martial Arts Federation - Southeast Regional Director, hosted this event which was instructed by Master Roger Jarrett. Students enjoyed an educational, fun filled weekend with karate/taekwondo on Friday & Saturday AM, aikido & iaido on Saturday PM and judo/jujitsu on Sunday.
During the seminar, Master Jarrett and Sensei Bushnell were very pleased and proud to promote Jeff Reach (Dojo Cho – FL) to 5th Dan, Chong Shin Kwan. Craig Warren and Rachel Washington were also being presented 1st Dan certificates resulting from earlier testing. An Iaido test held during the seminar resulted in 2nd Dan promotions for Robert Blackston, Tim Morgan (Dojo Cho – North Shelby, AL) & Jeff Reach.
October’s “Budo in Alpharetta” seminar was held at John Farris’ dojo in Alpharetta, GA. Master Jarrett instructed on Friday & Saturday and was pleased to have his wife Linda travel South with him. Master Jarrett’s instruction is always inspirational for those in attendance. During the seminar Master Jarrett presented Connor Kobus with his 1st Dan Chong Shin Kwan certificate. Sensei Kobus’ test was conducted at USAMAF Southeast Regional Headquarters earlier in the year.
Master Jarrett was on hand with his son Chris Jarrett to lead a special Sport Judo in Karate Competition Seminar for the Pennsylvania Shotokan Karate Club, ran by USA Karate National Coach, Dustin Baldis. The seminar went very well and PSKC photographer Shelly Lipton was on had to capture the weekend with her camera. Shelley Lipton is a psychologist and amateur sports photographer. Part of her graduate research was in sports psychology. Through the lens of her camera, she works to capture interesting and key moments in sports, drawing the viewer into the image with a heightened awareness of the situation.Click Here to see the amazing set of photos she took over the weekend.
Kathy Reynolds Takes Gold at the PKF Championships
We are proud to announce that USA Martial Arts Federation Black Belt Kathy Reynolds, age 13, won the gold for the United States at the Junior Pan American Karate Championships in El Salvador at the end of August.
Kathy is a student of Sensei Mike Jacobs, USAMAF Regional Director, and head instructor of the USA Martial Arts Training Center in Genoa, Ohio. Kathy and her older brother Brad have been training with Sensei Jacobs for many years. Brad has trained for 13 years and Kathy has trained for 9 years. Brad made the US Team 2 years ago and represented our country at the Junior Pan Ams in Ecuador that year. Both Shihan Jarrett and Sensei Jacobs are proud of Kathy, taking the Gold in her first time out with the US Team.
